God Offers Forgiveness

Sin Of Pride - The Sin of Sins

The sin of pride is the sin of sins. It was this sin, we're told, which transformed Lucifer, an anointed cherub of God, the very "seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty,"1 into Satan, the devil, the father of lies, the one for whom Hell itself was created.2 We're warned to guard our hearts against pride lest we too "fall into the same condemnation as the devil."3

It was the sin of pride which first led Eve to eat of the forbidden fruit. In Genesis we read, "Then the serpent said to the woman, 'You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.' So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate."4 And who do you think was that serpent of old who first introduced Eve to this sin of pride? It was none other than the devil himself,5 eager to share his condemnation with others.

St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430 A.D.) wrote, "'Pride is the commencement of all sin'6 because it was this which overthrew the devil, from whom arose the origin of sin; and afterwards, when his malice and envy pursued man, who was yet standing in his uprightness, it subverted him in the same way in which he himself fell. For the serpent, in fact, only sought for the door of pride whereby to enter when he said, 'Ye shall be as gods.'"7

Sin Of Pride - Preoccupation With Self

The sin of pride is a preoccupation with self. It is thus very fitting that the middle letter in the word is "i." Pride is all about "me, myself, and I." So even as the word "pride" is centered upon an "i," the sin itself is also centered upon "I." We read of Lucifer's fall, "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.' Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit."8 Satan's enmity against God began with "I". And so it is with us. If you are preoccupied with yourself, you are suffering from the sin of pride.

One way to determine whether or not you are preoccupied with yourself is to evaluate your motives. Take the pursuit knowledge for example. If you study hard because that's what the Lord wants you to do and you're being obedient to Him, that's good. That's obedience to God. Or if you study hard because you want to become a teacher so that you can edify others and help them to grow, that's good too. That's love for others. But if you study hard solely to amass knowledge for yourself, just so you can say that you know more than everyone else, that's bad! Your focus is upon yourself and your own glory. That's preoccupation with self. That's pride. And if this is the case for you, not only are you already suffering from pride, you're setting yourself up to be totally consumed by it! The Apostle Paul wasn't joking when he said, "Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies."9 And anyone who is ever been there will tell you, knowledge for the wrong reasons (i.e. personal glory) will lead to a proud heart and enmity against God.

Sin Of Pride - An Outline

The sin of pride is rightfully distinguished as the foremost among the seven "deadly sins," each of the seven equally as deadly (Proverbs 6:16-19), but none quite as notorious as this "sin of the devil."10 We're going to look at this sin of sins: how it manifests itself in our thoughts and lives, what are its effects and how we are to fight against it taking hold in our hearts. We'll begin by looking at two people in history that committed the sin of pride and how they're portrayed in the Bible. We'll look at how pride manifested itself in their lives and we'll make some practical observations. Then we'll look at how pride can infect our own hearts and minds, and finally, we'll discuss how to combat the sin of pride with humility. Sin Of Pride - Nebuchadnezzar
The great Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar, suffered from the sin of pride and lost his kingdom for it. His story is given to us so that we might learn our lesson from him (rather than having to learn it the hard way), the lesson being: God is quite able to humble the proud and more than happy to do so. No more than twelve months after being warned by Daniel the prophet of God's displeasure with him, Nebuchadnezzar looked out across the great city of Babylon and said in his pride, "Is this not Babylon the great, which I myself have built as a royal residence by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?"1

While the words were still in his mouth, a voice spoke from heaven, "King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you! And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses." And we read that at "that very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles' feathers and his nails like birds' claws."2

Nebuchadnezzar was later given the opportunity to repent and upon doing so he was given back his kingdom by God's grace. This is what he learned through his ordeal: "At the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: for His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, 'What have You done?' At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and splendor returned to me. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down."3 The lesson we are to learn from Nebuchadnezzar's experience is this: "those who walk in pride He is able to put down."

Sin Of Pride - Belshazzar
Nebuchadnezzar was extended God's grace and he repented of the sin of pride. His grandson however was not given the same opportunity. Perhaps that is because Nebuchadnezzar's experience was meant to serve as a lesson to us all, and Belshazzar, who knew of his grandfather's rebuke, refused to learn his grandfather's lesson. On the night of king Belshazzar's demise, Daniel the prophet stood before him and said, "'O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom and majesty, glory and honor. And because of the majesty that He gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whomever he wished, he executed; whomever he wished, he kept alive; whomever he wished, he set up; and whomever he wished, he put down. But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him. Then he was driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses. But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this. And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven.' …That very night Belshazzar, king of the Chaldeans, was slain."4

Sin Of Pride - How Pride Works
By looking at the lives of these two men we can learn how the sin of pride might work in our own lives. Nebuchadnezzar, on the one hand, didn't acknowledge God for what He had given him, in this case the throne upon which he sat. He gave himself credit for his success and in doing so he compounded his sin by robbing God of the glory which He was due. Belshazzar, on the other hand, was so arrogant and foolish as to deliberately insult and provoke the God of universe. He defiled the vessels of gold and silver which had been dedicated to God by using them in a drunken orgy and he did so knowing full well how the Lord had rebuked his grandfather not many years before.1

From these two examples we see how pride can skew our perceptions of reality. In fact, pride must obscure the truth simply because the truth is often very humbling, something contrary to the sin of pride. Nebuchadnezzar's pride deceived him into thinking something that wasn't true: he believed that he had built the great Babylonian empire by his own wisdom and by his might when in fact it was God who "made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings."2

King Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, had the exact same problem. He gave himself credit for his victories, saying in his heart, "By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I am prudent; also I have removed the boundaries of the people, and have robbed their treasuries; so I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man. My hand has found like a nest the riches of the people, and as one gathers eggs that are left, I have gathered all the earth; and there was no one who moved his wing, nor opened his mouth with even a peep."3 And yet it was God who gave Sennacherib his success because God chose to use him to exercise His righteous indignation upon certain godless nations. But Sennacherib did not give God the glory due His name, but instead, like Belshazzar he exalted himself against God and insulted Him to His face. And just like Belshazzar, it cost Sennacherib his life. The Lord declared, "Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger and the staff in whose hand is My indignation. I will send him against an ungodly nation, and against the people of My wrath I will give him charge, to seize the spoil, to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. Yet he does not mean so, nor does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and cut off not a few nations. …I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his haughty looks."4 God showed His awesome power, wiping out 185,000 Assyrian troops in one night. Sennacherib fled in fear to his capital city, Nineveh, where he was slain in the temple of his false god, Nisroch.

Belshazzar also suffered from a skewed perception of reality. His pride gave him a deluded sense of security. He felt safe upon his throne, behind his high walls; safe enough to mock the God of the universe! But he was a fool to think that he could exalt himself against his Maker.

And so we see that pride can blind us to the reality of our situation. We also see that pride can lead us into further sin against God. Pride led Nebuchadnezzar to rob God of the glory due His name while pride led Belshazzar to insult God to His face. But God will not be mocked by man nor will He be robbed by us. "Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! …You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed Me,"5 and "do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap."6

Sin Of Pride - A Dangerous Enemy
The sin of pride is such a dangerous enemy simply because it pits you against your Maker, and God is an enemy to be feared! "Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world [that is, whoever chooses to embrace the 'lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life'*] makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, 'The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously'? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: 'God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'"7

* "For all that is in the world - the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life - is not of the Father but is of the world," (1 John 2:16) a world which was, like Lucifer, created absolutely perfect, but has since, like Satan, departed from its Creator God and has created for itself its own abominable ways.

Sin Of Pride - How It Manifests Itself In Our Lives
Here are some of the ways the sin of pride might manifest itself in your life. We've already seen from the lives of Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar how pride can simply be an over-estimation of one's ability or even one's security. It can also be an over-estimation of one's righteousness or overall self-worth. For example, if you happen to think that you're worth more to God than some other person, you've fallen victim to the sin of pride. It's distorted your view of reality, because the truth of the matter is, "there is no partiality with God,"1 "nor does He regard the rich more than the poor; for they are all the work of His hands."2 Or if on the other hand you have a habit of looking down on others because you think you're more righteous than they are, consider the parable which Jesus gave to those "who thought they were better than others and who looked down on everyone else:"3

"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men - extortionists, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.' And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."4

Sin Of Pride - Looking Down On Others
If you look down on others because you surpass them in virtue, knowledge, skill, wealth, or for any reason at all, you have fallen victim to the sin of pride. And not only that, you have, like Belshazzar, insulted the Creator Himself. For "he who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker."5

What gives you the right to look down on others? And why would you boast of your skills or abilities? "For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?"6 Be careful not to take credit for God's work in your life. "Know that the Lord Himself is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture."7 Never presume to say to yourself, "My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth,"8 but instead, "remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth."9 He is "the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways."10

It was God who gave you your natural skills and abilities, and he didn't do it so that you can despise others. Believe it or not, God gave you your skills and abilities so that you can serve others. That's the kind of Person He is and that's what He wants from us: for us to love each other. He Himself came, not to be served but to serve. Jesus taught, "Whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave - just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."11

Sin Of Pride - Love One Another
God despises the sin of pride especially because it's totally contrary to His purposes for us. He wants us to live by His example and to serve each other in love. And He's given us the most beautiful example. Not only did He die for us, He lives for us as well. The Apostle John tells the story how one night Jesus "rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. …So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, 'Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.'"12

Therefore, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!"13 "Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."14

Sin Of Pride - How To Fight It
So how do we fight against the sin of pride? First we need to recognize that we have a problem. And this might be the hardest part, because as we have seen pride skews our perception of reality. It lies to us. It says to us, "You don't have a problem with pride; you're not being proud, you're just being honest with yourself! You are better than everyone else and you deserve all the glory. You've established yourself by your wisdom and your might. You, you, you…" And it feels good. It's hard to see the truth when your own heart is lying to you - wooing you with approval. It's hard to stop and think for a minute, "No, I'm not worth more than anyone else, God loves us all the same and His opinion is the only one that really matters. And as for my glory, to God be all praise and glory! I didn't establish myself by my wisdom and might, I've just used the gifts which God gave me to do that for which He gave them to me in the first place! I am an unprofitable servant; I've only done that which was my duty to do."1

It's hard to humble yourself like that when you're stuck in pride. And it's hard to see the truth when you're lying to yourself. So you're going to need help. The Lord says, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings."2 Your heart might be able to trick you, but it can't trick God!

So the very first thing to do is to get on your knees and pray. Say with David, "Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."3 Ask God for mercy. Cry out with David, "Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin."4 By asking for God's help you're actually humbling yourself before Him and God will honor that. The Scripture says, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." This isn't just a warning to the proud; it's a promise to the humble. If you humble yourself before God in prayer, God will pour His grace upon you. And while sin might be able to overcome you, it's no match for God's awesome power. So pray. Pray, pray, pray. That's the first step. By praying you're, not only are you petitioning God to intercede on your behalf, which He'll do by His grace if you're sincere, you're actually combating the sin of pride yourself by humbling yourself before God, humility being the opposite of pride. It's like fighting fire with water.

The next thing to do after God starts to show you areas where you're proud is to fight it mentally. When you experience a sudden pang of pride and you recognize it for what it is, mentally expose it. Admit to yourself that you're being proud and ask the Lord to forgive you. Say, "I'm just being proud; Lord, please forgive me."

The third and final thing to do is to tell your brothers and sisters in Christ that you're struggling with pride and ask them to pray for you. "Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."5

Sin Of Pride - In Summary
So in summary, the sin of pride manifests itself in selfish motives, an exaggerated ego, a low opinion of others, and disrespect for God. It can lead to other sins against God. For example: robbing God of the glory He is due, and it can and does distort your perception of reality. We fight pride by humbling ourselves before God in prayer, asking Him to reveal the pride hidden in our hearts, acknowledging and repenting of pride when we see it in ourselves, and by being transparent with our Christian family for the sake of accountability and prayer.

In closing here are a few passages of Scripture dealing specifically with pride:

"The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts." (Psalms 10:4)

"Though the LORD is on high, yet He regards the lowly; but the proud He knows from afar." (Psalm 138:6)

"The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate." (Proverbs 8:13)

"When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom." (Proverbs 11:2)

"By pride comes nothing but strife, but with the well-advised is wisdom." (Proverbs 13:10)

"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." (Proverbs 16:18)

"Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; though they join forces, none will go unpunished." (Proverbs 16:5)

"A man's pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor." (Proverbs 29:23)

Baptized In Jesus Name Ministry "Water Baptized"?

A crucial subject that many people do not understand is the importance of water baptism and what takes place as a result of it. Many people view water baptism as an option that you can do if you want to, but it’s alright if you don’t. There are also questions about how to baptize people and at what age you can baptize them.

He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (Mk 16:16)

Many people claim that what you are about to read is how you obtain salvation.

But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Rom 10:7-8)

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Rom 10:13)

What happened to the rest of what was taught?????

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (Mt 28:19)

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Lk 24:45-47)

Jesus opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, and told them what to speak. He told them to preach repentance and remission of sins in His name. And they did!!!

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38)

Notice that baptism was not optional but was part of how they were to receive remission of their sins. Also notice that all throughout the book of Acts, which was the birth of the New Testament Church, you will see that the people who believed in the preaching of Jesus Christ repented of their sins and were baptized in the name of the Lord.

(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) (Acts 8:16)

And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. (Acts 8:37-38)

And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. (Acts 9:18)

Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. (Acts 10:47-48)

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. (Acts 19:5-6)

AND NOW WHY TARRIEST THOU? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. (Acts 22:12-16)

For me in my life, the biggest celebrity, the biggest star, the one who is famous in my mind—not just here on earth, but throughout the universe— is Jesus Christ. He’s the One who I applaud and thank.

I’ll be honest with you—I was not always a good Christian guy. I grew up in a home where we didn’t go to church. I didn’t believe in God. I was a staunch atheist for most of my life. I thought I was just too smart to believe in a fairy tale like that.

When I was about 14 years old, I had been working in theentertainment industry for a few years, and I got the part of Mike Seaver on “Growing Pains.” Within a few years, it was a hit show. I had everything that I wanted. I had as much money as I wanted to spend. I was traveling around the world meeting famous people. I was a famous person. I had everything that I wanted.

But I met a man, who was the father of a girl that I liked, and I got to talking to this man, and he said, “There’s still something that you don’t have, though, Kirk. You have a lot, but you don’t have the Lord.” I’m thinking to myself, Okay, what’s your point? I don’t believe in God, and that’s really not something I’m interested in. But I thought, Well, I better not turn down his invitation to go to church. After all, this is the girl I like's father.”

So, I went to church with them, and I heard the Gospel for the very first time. And I listened because it wasn’t what I thought it was. This man stood up front and he opened up a Bible, which I thought was just this big, thick, dusty book full of rules designed to suck all the fun out of your life. The man at the front said it was the Word of God. He explained that there is a God who made me and you, and everyone on this planet, and everything in this universe; and He sustains our life, moment by moment. He is a holy God. He is a pure God. He is a good, amazing, wonderful God.

He went on to explain that we were designed by God to know Him, and to love Him, and obey Him with all of our heart, to be in a right relationship with Him. But that kind of right relationship does not naturally exist between us and God because of something that separates us from God, and that something he called sin. I didn’t understand what sin was, and he explained it to me very simply. He said, “Sin is this stubborn, selfish streak that runs deep through the heart of every person. It shows up in many different kinds of ways in your life. It shows up when you lie. It shows up when you steal. It shows up when you dishonor your mother and father. It shows up when you think you’re better than other people. And one of the clearest ways it shows up is when you put other things in your life in a more important position than God, who gave you those things.”

As I was listening to him, I was feeling really guilty, because if that was true, I was in big trouble. I was guilty of all those things. My dirty socks were more important to me than God, because in my mind, God didn’t even exist. He said that God hates sin. God is pure and holy, and He hates sin, not only because it separates us from Him, but because it’s wrong, and that God will punish sin and those who commit sin in a place called hell. I’m thinking, Wow, that’s really harsh.

But he went on to explain the character of God as also being loving and compassionate and merciful, and that He has provided a way for each and every person who has sinned against God to be forgiven. He did that through sending His Son, Jesus Christ, who died on a cross and then rose from the grave; and if we will humble ourselves before God, repent of our sin, and trust in Jesus Christ who died to pay the price for our sins, God would grant us forgiveness and everlasting life. He did that to demonstrate His great love for us.

Now I’m sitting at the back of this church feeling two things: one, very guilty because I knew that I had sinned, if anyone had ever sinned against God; and two, I felt this incredible sense of hope. My heart was swelling with hope that this story of an amazing God who sees my sinful heart would be compassionate enough to actually take my punishment for me, forgive me, and welcome me back into a right relationship with Him.

So I went home not knowing what to say to my friend’s father, but I sure had lots of questions. I asked him about evolution. I asked him about all kinds of religions. I asked him about the Bible, and I asked him for answers. He gave me lots of intelligent answers to these questions, but he said, “Kirk, there’s one question you need to ask God Himself. I can’t answer it for you. And that’s whether or not He’s real.” I thought, Well, how am I supposed to do that?

Well, about a month later, I was sitting in my car all by myself on the side of the road, and the thought occurred to me,
Kirk, if you get in a car accident and die today, will you be going to Heaven?
I knew the answer was no. I knew that I had ignored God my whole life, put everything in a more important position than He was, and I had sinned against Him. Even though I knew the things I was doing were wrong, I did them anyway, because I could get away with it. But God saw all of that, and I knew that there was no reason He should let me into Heaven, especially in light of what He had done by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross for me.
And so, I knew it was time for me to do something about that. I decided I would pray. I didn’t know how to do it. I had never done it before, but I closed my eyes and I prayed the clumsiest prayer ever prayed in the history of prayer praying. I just said, “God, if You’re there, I need to know. God, if You’re real, would You please show me? And would You please forgive me? And would You please change me into the person that You want me to be?”

I opened my eyes, and it wasn’t like a gust of wind blew through my window or I saw visions of Jesus on my windshield, but I had a very real sense that God heard me. I felt He was listening to me, that He was real. And it felt so good.

I went back home and told a friend who was a Christian. He gave me a Bible, and I started reading my Bible. And I started learning about this amazing God who is not this big bad cop up in the sky just waiting to punish people because He somehow gets His kicks by doing that. He is a holy, just, righteous God who desires for us to turn from our sin so that we can be forgiven of our sin. It’s an amazing story of love that’s spelled out in the Bible, and that’s the God that I have fallen in love with and that I live for.

I can honestly tell you today that of all the places I’ve ever been, of all the people I’ve ever met, of all the fun and exciting things I’ve ever done, absolutely nothing compares to the joy of knowing Jesus Christ, of knowing that my sins are forgiven and that I’m in a right relationship with God.

Which Bible verses did
the NIV delete?

Several readers have asked me this question so I thought it worthwhile to include my response here. Please note that these are only WHOLE verses that the NIV deletes. This list does not include the many words and phrasesthat were completely deleted from the NIV--it deletes over 64,000 words including words like mercyseat, Jehovah, and Godhead. It removes meaningful, well-known Bible words like Calvary, Lucifer, new testament, regeneration, etc. Most of the modern Bibles line up very closely with the NIV--and so does the New World Translation--the Bible of the Jehovah's Witnesses which predates the NIV!
When you read below where I say that a verse is COMPLETELY deleted, I mean clean/bald-headed/gone/vanished deleted. For instance, if you search for Acts 8:37 in the NIV you will read,
36As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?"
38And he ordered the chariot to stop. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him.
Verse 37 is CLEAN, BALD-HEADED, GONE, VANISHED, MY FRIENDS (and it is a powerful verse)! Some foolish people have written me saying, "But it says something in the footnotes." I have three responses. (1) When you are reading your Bible do you look at the footnotes after every verse? Do you say "I am reading verse 3 so let me look below and see if something in verse 3 is missing."? Even if you did do that (which you don't) the footnotes say that the "best manuscripts" don't have the verse--will you then agree with them that the verse doesn't belong? If not, then why are you reading an NIV? (2) Not all the word deletions are found in the footnotes of the NIV so don't think for a second that they are letting you know all the changes they made. (3) The next logical step will be for the NIV to omit the footnotes and just reorder everthing. In the example above verse 38 would become verse 37 so it wouldn't look funny. Look at the J.B. Phillips translation--that heretick didn't number the individual verses so you don't know what you're missing. It's paragraph style. The NIV may go that way too. They are desensitizing you to the changing of the very words of God. In summary, they'll either renumber or go to that paragraph format.
Wait a minute, hold the presses! I got the following from Bill W. one of our dear readers:
"I was in the Christian Book store today. I saw some thing that shocked me. I look through the Bibles often. I looked at the CHILDREN'S NIV. I looked up the missing verses and there was something I could not believe. I looked up Matt 17:21 and of course it is missing BUT in this Children's Bible it was typed out like this 20/21 and the 21st verse was still missing. They make you think that you read the 21st verse but it still is just the 20th verse! Can you believe it???!!! If you want to look for yourself find the CHILDREN'S NIrV BIBLE, and see for yourself. I did look in the other NIV's to see if they did the same thing. They DID NOT do that, BUT how long before they do?????!"
They are already sneaking the deletions into the children's Bibles! This is the second time that I've heard of those foxes pulling one over on little helpless children. The other thing I've seen them do is retranslate the kids' and prisoners' Bibles to make them gender neutral. Of course those foxes didn't market them that way, they just snuck in the gender inclusivity. See this article for details.
Another update! I just opened the JW "Bible", the New World Translation (1961 ed.), and looked up all the verses that the NIV completely deletes. THE JEHOVAH'S WITNESS BIBLE DELETES THE EXACT SAME ONES!!!! I mean ALL of them! The only difference between the NIV and the New World Translation deletions is that the JW Bible does not include any footnotes! Our illiterate, lazy culture has spilled over to many professing Christians who have embraced the ways of the sluggard (and their want shall come upon them as an armed man). They are willing to read a Satanic "Bible" version missing what God says so they can be lazy and not do their due diligence. Your modern Bible perversion was written by men using dynamic equivalence. In other words, they are telling you their interpretation and their doctrine--NOT what the manuscripts really say. Don't believe me? Look at the article on the NIV using gender inclusive language. Gender inclusivity wasn't in the "originals"--it is a modern, feminist concept born of REBELLION.
A number of brothers and sisters, after examining the facts, have said, "I'm getting a King James!" Many have shared what a blessing the King James Bible has been to them and their spiritual life. The King James isn't hard. I've seen one and two year olds quoting it and I am not exaggerating. I've taught it to people who cannot read and to children whose second language is English. I actually find the modern Bibles more difficult to read than the King James.
If you read a modern Bible, don't let your pride get in the way of really looking at this information. Some people get hostile because I'm sharing these facts. Look up the verses and see that what you call the Bible is not the Bible. Get a real Bible. The King James conformable to the edition of 1611--NOT the New King James or the KJ21, etc. they are not King James Bibles.

This is one of the GREATEST verses testifying of the trinity. That is why the Jehovah's Witnesses leave it out. They do not believe in the trinity and they do not believe that Jesus is God. Why does the NIV leave it out...? Whole books have been written on the manuscript evidence that supports inclusion of this verse in the Bible. Reader, do you believe in the triunity of God? If so, then this deletion should offend you. People are wresting and perverting the scriptures to their own destruction.
NIV Reader: Do you have enough confidence in the NIV to...
tell God, OUT LOUD, that these verses do not belong in the Bible?
If not, you need to get a King James so you can have some confidence.

One writer said to me, "You [do not] talk about the large section of Mark [referring to Mark 16:9-20] which was INCLUDED with the provison that the earliest reliable manuscripts did not include that section."
I said to him, That "provisional" statement is, at best, casting doubt on the word of God and at worst deleting the information in the footnotes. You say that the NIV says, the MOST RELIABLE manuscripts don't have it. That is as good as saying, "If you accept this rendering you are accepting an inferior, unreliable manuscript." When I was a child I went through a lot. I suffered a lot of emotional trauma. By the time I was a teenager I felt like I had been a victim and I did what I thought was fighting back. What I didn’t realize then that the things I was doing were only furthering my trauma, and eventually would ruin my life!I started to rebel (fight back) at the age of 12, and nobody taught me or disciplined me. My mother would yell and scream about what not to do but there wasn’t any teaching going on. I started to drink and smoke. I cursed, lied, stole and cheated. I attempted suicide, tried to get revenge and ruin lives. I would have done anything to be bad; I thought that was who I was. I hated myself, and everyone around me. I also felt like everyone hated me.I had two children by the time I was 18 years old. I loved them so much but had no idea how to love them and take care of them. I was all alone without any help with my children. I would continue the cycle that I lived in my childhood. This didn’t help me to like myself any more than I already did, or didn’t. I ended up homeless for nearly three years because I didn’t get my act together. I tried and tried but it was just too hard for me to do it on my own. In all actuality, when I look back on it now, it was hard at times to even try.Then came Jesus, the one and only true God! He found me where I was and lifted me out of all that I had been drowning in. I was suffocating and he gave me air…. Dying of thirst and he gave me living water…Starving to death and he feed me the Bread of Life!He opened a door for me in a place called the Esplanade House. It is a transitional homeless shelter that helps families help themselves. While they where teaching me the life skills that I would need to live in this world the true church was teaching me how to live for God, take care of my children and how to get to know the only One who could make me whole again.I repented (in the likeness of His death-1 Cor. 15:1-3, Romans 6:2) to God for forgiveness of my sins when I realized that they are why he had to come to earth robed in flesh and die on a cross. Then upon seeing in the Bible that this is the way that God has made it to be done I was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ to cleanse me of those sins (in the likeness of His burial-1 Cor. 15:4, Romans 6:3-4), and finally I was filled with His wonderful Spirit, speaking with other tongues, baptized in the Spirit (in the likeness of His resurrection-1 Cor. 15:4, Romans 6:4; 8:2). When and after all of this took place my life really started to change.I was diagnosed with a chemical imbalance in my brain that affected my mental health when I was younger. You have to understand that is a “Psych” term and is not an actual physical problem. It really was the way that I was living (the sin) that was messing my mind up so much. I felt that I could not even control myself sometimes, because I wasn’t in my right mind. God took care of that! He healed me, took all that wretched sin away and made me whole. I no longer have to take pills that alter my reality just so that I don’t hurt myself or anyone else. Jesus made me whole and now I am full of joy, peace and love instead of pain, anger and shame. He promises that to everyone!Yep, it is a promise to everyone! Even to you! No matter what you have ever done or what has ever been done to you. He loves us all and that is what drove Him to robe himself in flesh just to have that flesh die, so that we can be free! Read the story of His death in the Holy Bible (Matthew 27-28, Mark 15-16, Luke 23, and John 18-19), so that you can see what He endured for our sakes. No matter who you are or where you’ve been He died for you, so that you can be saved. Oh how we ought to praise Him for that love!Read what Jesus said in John 3:5 about seeing the kingdom of God and then read in Acts 2:38 about what He taught one of his disciples about what we have to do in order to be saved. This is what needs to be done in order to experience what I have talked about with my story…. You know this is all true! It really is my life and since Jesus has come in and made me clean…. I love it!

I dread to think where I would be today if God had not saved me. My drug and alcohol abuse started when I was 14. First, I was experimenting with tobacco and Marijuana, and quickly began using harder drugs. It wasn’t long before Satan was in full control, and I was heavily involved in taking and making drugs. This led to extreme violence and robbery. I had been in and out of jail since I was 18.
I can not help but weep, when I think of all the men and women’s lives I led to destruction. Everything we do in life, good or bad, right or wrong affects EVERYONE around us.Then, while I was sitting in a prison cell, lost, hopeless, and without direction, at the age of 34, God began to work on me. Upon my release His divine direction led me to cross paths with a backslider from the Rialto church, who invited me to one of their services.In 1997 I met my Redeemer. By March of 1998 I had received the Holy Ghost was baptized in Jesus name. I carried a lot of baggage to the altar that day. But after laying it all down, and giving it all over to Him who is “Altogether Lovely”, He made all my burdens roll away.I cannot begin to express the love and peace I felt that day, and still do today. I didn’t know it was a sin and to be honest with you I didn’t care. I had to get my candy one way or another! Sin is so deceitful. Unless you know about God you don’t even know what sin is.Apparently, according to my fellow sixth graders, I was a nerd. Believe that? A nerd! How was I suppose to know that being good at school, collecting baseball cards, and wearing “medical” glasses would classify you as a nerd?! Have you ever been to the optometrist with no cash, only your medical card? They dust off a cover and present you with the wide selection of two different pairs of glasses to choose from, one size fits all!That’s when I began my journey of trying to find happiness and “fitting in” with the world. I became the class clown as a way of being accepted. The more I would try to be accepted by the world, the more I would have to do things that were against God. Sometimes the things I would do at a young age didn’t feel right. To be honest with you I didn’t care. All I wanted to do was be happy and be accepted. My only form of religion was when my mom forced me to go to a catholic church and do my first communion. It was either study for my first communion test or get a whooping. Sometimes I chose the whooping…I discovered girls at a pretty early age. In school girls are the barometer of seeing how accepted you are. If the pretty girls like you, you’re in. If they reject you then you move down the social ladder until you find those that do. Sadly to say I would aim for the “top” and find that my social standard was way below average. Can I honestly tell you that during my high school years I felt worthless, meaningless, ugly, and bitter to name a few. I felt as if the only way I could fit in was to joke around.Tired of being considered a nerd I took of the glasses and decided that rebellion was the way to go. I would ditch school and hang around with the school trouble makers (funny thing I discovered, most of the school trouble makers would never show up to school!) No task was too daring for me. I was going to prove that I was “down”. I started ditching and “bagging” on my teachers in front of the class. My teachers would ask questions that I knew the answers to and I would act as if I didn’t know. I could see that some of the girls began to look at me twice and actually start thinking I was cute! Imagine that. My plan was beginning to take action.But inside, I still felt worthless, meaningless, ugly, and bitter to name a few.Eventually suspensions, Saturday detention, and getting kicked out of class followed. The final outcome of my 10th grade year was that I had only received 55 credits, which put me in the first semester of my 9th grade year. In all of my rebellion I discovered that by running my mouth I was able to intimidate most of the school bullies. Eventually my plan of “talking smack” back fired and I got into a brawl in my 4th period Spanish class. I was given the option by my wonderful counselor of, “Either you leave or we kick you out. This school can’t afford to be kicking kids out of school and you can’t afford to be kicked out of school. For the sakes of our records and yours, it’s better if you just drop out”. So drop out I did.My home life was a disaster. My mom, tired of raising two kids (my sister was born when I was 10 years old) said that my life was up to me now. “I’m tired of crying and always fighting with you in front of your sister, do whatever you want”, she said. So guess what? I took her up on it I did what ever I wanted. I partied till the early morning hours and slept till 1pm in the afternoon.By this time I knew that sin was a very heavy part of my life. Reading the bible for my first communion actually pointed out what sin was. I don’t care who you are or how tough you are, when you read the Word of the Most High it makes you aware. There were nights when tough times would come around where I would pray. According to me I had changed my mentality from not knowing or caring about sin to “God knows my heart. He knows I’m a good person.”Soon after I dropped out I began to get more involved in throwing parties. I began to throw clubs and underground functions. With this my popularity rose and I began to get a name for myself. My crew was known around the party scene and I finally began to achieve what I always wanted. What I thought would make me happy, to be part of the “in” crowd. Not only was I part of the “in” crowd I became a leader. Girls, drinking, and eventually drugs, something would always get me and I couldn’t figure it out. Here I am doing everything I’m supposed to be doing to be happy and still inside…I felt worthless, meaningless, ugly, and bitter to name a few.According to my senseless theology I obviously needed to climb higher up the ladder. I shifted my focus and became more aggressive in my venture for success and bigger fame. I began to throw bigger parties. We threw shows that at times pulled as many as 4,000 people. I opened up a business (with a partner) at age 21. By the time I was 23 I was already a popular and respected figure in the world of clubs, undergrounds, and parties. Our company began to grow and I felt good at the compliments of being such a young and prosperous man.Still inside I still felt worthless, meaningless, ugly, and bitter to name a few.By this time I had already realized that God was the only way to fill my void. I denied him so many times. If I would have died on one of my many encounters with death, (Me and a group of friends got shot at from about 10 feet away and survived. I would drive drunk and test the speed limits on the freeways) I would have gone straight to hell with out ever being able to say that I didn’t know. What a merciful God he is!!!!!!!!!We infested our business with sin. We would throw parties after business hours, at times having up to 150 people drinking and doing drugs inside and outside the building. I remember one night getting drunk, smoking weed, free basing nitrous oxide, dropping a couple of pills of ecstasy and “bumping (sniffing)” cocaine. I was so numb that I couldn’t tell the different effects of the drugs. Sin is so cruel and deceitful. I remember that night feeling like a king, here I am partying like a rock star and owning my own business. I felt as if I was going straight to the top. According to me “I was living life to the fullest!” That night or should I say the following morning, I had the grueling realization that the party was over and it was time to go home. When I would go home I would sleep with my head phones on drowning out the knock at the door of my soul with worldly music. Thinking was out of the question because I would always know deep inside (like we all do) that I was not right with God. I would go to work on Mondays as if nothing happened, still this young eager, enthusiastic man looking to be successful. “I could control my partying, I’m not like those low lives on the streets”, I would say.Finally after playing games with God I had hit the dead end road. I can remember I was sitting back and I thought to myself, “I’m going to make it big. I’m going to be rich and have everything life has to offer”. (I would always lie to myself to try to fill the void inside). A thought hit me like a ton of bricks “Yes but you’ll never fill the void inside your soul”.I remember I was sitting in my office working. A friend called me for business but I shrewdly swayed the conversation to talking about God. After all a business man doesn’t just come out and say he needs God. Isn’t God just for the loser and drug addict on the street? What arrogance! I (with out even being asked) began to tell him how I felt that I was OK with God and how I would serve him as soon as I was ready. I remember he began to speak to me about God (we weren’t discussing doctrine – I didn’t even know there were different doctrines!). After I hung up the phone I walked into the rest room, I stooped over the toiled (after all God doesn’t answer prayer unless you’re kneeling, right?) And I prayed, “God I don’t know what to do from here, but I want to be right with you”. And you won’t believe what happened!Nothing. So I thought…Needless to say God answers prayer, shortly there after a friend of mine began to come by the office. A wild crazy maniac, as I would have described him before he got saved, Janos. He began to speak to me about God. Janos invited me to the church he attends and boy! You talk about a bunch of crazy people! “What are these people so excited about, running the isles, jumping around, screaming!” I said to myself. And all this was going on while the preacher was preaching. I remember in an august thundering voice the preacher yelled, “He’s the KING OF KINGS and the LORD OF LORDS!!!!!! Yell hallelujah!” I knew it!!!!!! My soul jumped inside of me. I wanted to yell hallelujah at the top of my voice!I stayed quiet and didn’t say a word. After all young business men who have everything going for them don’t yell at the top of their lungs in front of a bunch of strangers (Funny how when I would watch sports I would yell like a fool).

I went on living. Now I was in a worse spot than I had ever been before. Not only did I feel worthless, meaningless, ugly, and bitter to name a few. Now I knew that God was what I needed in my life and I didn’t submit!At night I would feel the knocking on my soul. Finally after a very convincing situation that took place on New Year’s eve while I was at a party on Hollywood Blvd (they blocked off two streets). I decided to start going to church and give it a try…I remember the day it finally took place. I can tell you the exact spot I was sitting when they began to read from the Word of God…“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
(Isaiah 9:6)I could feel my heart beating and pounding in my chest with excitement…. I felt the knock on the door to my soul stronger than I ever felt it. It’s almost as if my eyes had been opened with that one scripture.
This is who I’ve been looking for all my life!
This is who’s been knocking!
This child…
This son…
This Everlasting Father…
The Might God!!!!
JESUS!You’re the answer! Not the acceptance of this world! You JESUS!I cried and jumped and screamed!!!! And finally what should have happened the first time I stepped into this congregation… I yelled “HALLELUJAH!”I remember the day I got baptized. The man of God whispered in my ear, “Life is about choices and this is the greatest choice you will ever make.” The next thing I heard was “Upon the confession of your sins I now baptize you in the NAME OF JESUS for the remission of ALL your sins, IN JESUS NAME!”You know what? Life is about choices and he was right. This is the greatest choice I have ever made.

America!! the way it going when we put in God we trust on our money and God in the plegde of acquaintances! we are being hypricits the goverments and every thing bout America is not showing a righteouse country that God will be proud of read the Bible and tell me if we are doing everything that those other countries had done?? and what happen to them all they all got destroyed, why?? because they were'nt living a righteous life the way God said we ought too. So i say if we going to have we trust in God on our money and pledge of acquaintances! then we need to live life the righteouse way Gods way and the congress have to believe and have faith in God, America needs to repent and return to God before it is too late!!!!!! Praise all those who believe and have faith in God in America and let us speak the Gospel of Jesus Christ and help change the ways of this country let us save us all from the wrath of God amen! :))
